Our dog Rusty is not doing so well.  He’s a little ol’ man, but we’re not too sure how old, since his teeth had been pulled/ground down by his previous abusive owners.  He had apparently been used as a bait dog. He has the scars to prove it. He showed up outside our fence around eleven years ago, with a chain embedded in his neck,  a swollen head and every rib showing. We took him to the vet, got him patched up and he’s been with us ever since.  The vet guessed (teeth situation) he might be about two years old, at the time. So that makes him around thirteen years old right now.  And right now, Rusty has an inoperable tumor, along with several others.  Until a week or so ago, he was getting around really good.  But in the past few days he’s not been able to hold much down, and his back legs are shaky.  We tried switching to different foods.  One was for elderly dogs and another for dogs with sensitive stomachs, but none have worked. So unless something drastically changes, it looks like Monday we’ll all be taking that last drive to the vets office.  The same vet that saved his life eleven years ago.
