Almost a New Year

December 31, 2010

Another year has come and gone. I was going to do a post reflecting on the year, but I found these great one liners regarding the subject that I’m going to post instead. Maybe later when I’m feeling more nostalgic I’ll do a reflecting post.

Oneliners for the New Year

An optimist stays up until midnight to see the new year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves. ~Bill Vaughan

A New Year’s resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other. ~Author Unknown

Be always at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let each new year find you a better man. ~Benjamin Franklin

Ring out the old, ring in the new,
Ring, happy bells, across the snow:
The year is going, let him go;
Ring out the false, ring in the true.
~Alfred, Lord Tennyson, 1850

For last year’s words belong to last year’s language
And next year’s words await another voice.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.
~T.S. Eliot

Drop the last year into the silent limbo of the past. Let it go, for it was imperfect, and thank God that it can go. ~Brooks Atkinson

We spend January 1 walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives… not looking for flaws, but for potential. ~Ellen Goodman

  1. Thanks for the smiles! I have to say that my favorite would have to be the Bill Vaughn quote because I’m just sarcastic like that 😉

The Ellen Goodman quote did make me smile because that is how I am feeling about this upcoming year.

Here’s to slowing down a bit, Smiling more often, letting the laundry pile up to make time for fun with the family and new frienships!

I hope you and mr. D have a happy, healthy and safe new year!

  2. The Bill Vaughn quote was my favorite too, because of the sarcasm.
Thank you for the well wishes for next year, and I hope you and your family have the same.

  3. Happy New Year, DL! Hope it’s a great one for you.

  4. Thank you Wyatt, and a Happy New Year to you too! 🙂
