AGHHHHH….disaster!

You’d think that the disaster I’m talking about would be the hair loss, due to chemo, that I’m experiencing at an alarming rate. But no, we’re talking something WAY more serious than that. Today, my BUNN coffeemaker bit the dust. The switch for the burner plate took a dirt nap and I was left standing there, a shocked look on my face, and a pile of hair at my feet. Mr. Dragon came out and did the man thing (flipped the switch back and forth and finally declared it “broken”), but, alas, it remained an ex coffeemaker. So we got our duds on and headed for Lowes, where I purchased another BUNN (I mean, who can beat 3 minutes for a whole pot of coffee??), but this one goes directly into an insulated carafe, no burner to mess with. So complete disaster was averted, and I only had to go a couple of hours without coffee. Whew, that was a close one.

Last night my daughter decided to try Shane out on his new potty chair. She was asking me questions, and I answered the best I could, although I told her that I didn’t have any experience with potty training boys. So we took Shane to his Cars potty chair, sat him down and gave him his Cars book to keep him occupied and waited for nature to take it’s course. And we waited. And we turned on the faucet to help nature take it’s course. Still nothing. So I suggested we take a little toilet paper to pat him with and say “All done” and then try again later. Then, while my daughter was getting a diaper I noticed he went to his bench and was holding on to himself. Sure enough, nature was taking it’s course. SO we ran him back to his potty chair and as nature did it’s business we praised him and called him a “big boy”. My daughter got him up to empty his chair, still praising him. The pride was evident on his face, in fact, he was so proud of himself he decided to christen my daughter’s leg. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her jump so fast, or scream so loud. But I did my part to help, I stood against the door and laughed hysterically as she attempted to dodge my grandson, who had turned into a human sprinkling system. Good times.

Hair today, gone tomorrow

I think that my hair is succumbing to the effects of the chemo early. Today I brushed out enough hair to make a small dog. My hair is really thick, so it might take a while for me to lose all of it completely. But I’m okay with this. I’ve prepared for it to happen since I first found out I had to do chemo, and my sister and I have had more than a few humorous conversations about it.

Me: I think I could probably drive myself to radiation (it’s in a different city), but I’m not sure about coming back.

My Sister: Are you sure?

Me: Yeah, but I’ll probably pull over and let you drive right outside the city limits. The last thing I need to do is get road rage and ram somebody.

My Sister: (laughing) Yeah, your wig would go flying off. They’d think you threw your dog at them.

Me: Or it would slide down and look like a long beard. They’d say, “Some bald, Amish guy just rammed into me, flipped me off and drove away”

RANT ALERT!!! Facebook is really beginning to suck. You know, the whole purpose in belonging to a social media site is to socialize, right? This is kind of hard to do when you have posts that appear and disappear. And NOW I’ve discovered that they’re forcing us to use a timeline front on our wall. I am SO close to just deactivating my account and saying to hell with the whole thing. I mean, if they’re going to make it look like a blog, I have a better one here. One that gives me options at personalization, AND I’m in control of it. Once I choose how to personalize it, it freakin’ stays that way until “I” decide to change it…bastards. So they can bite my dragon ass. RANT OVER!!!

Okay, I felt good today, I mean really good. I mean, dancing, exercising and being goofy–oh what the hell, who spilled something on the carpet?? For God’s sake, why don’t we all just spill the first glass of everything we drink onto the floor as a sacrifice to the carpet gods? ::sigh:: Sadly, it was probably me. It’s just not a normal day unless I spill my coffee. Too bad it wasn’t one of the coffees I put my glutamen in, that stuff is nasty. Maybe I can make this spill thing work for me? Maybe the next time someone notices the multiple stains on the carpet I’ll just say. “NO, it’s not stained, we bought it that way! It’s one of those new spotted carpets. This one was called, “The Tourettes Special”-aka- I stubbed my toe and spilled my sh*t”

On the news I heard some story about how men handle pain better than women. (insert jerking motion here) Oh yeah? Really? Good, let the macho men start having babies. We’ll see how long it takes for the human race to become extinct. pffffft

It’s rainy, my dog is driving me nuts and Shane (the grandson) is in a mood. So I’m off to play some Diablo II to relieve some stress. And nothing relieves stress more than blowing the living crap out of evil minions.

Lessons from God

God and I go way back. I talk to Him and He talks to me, telling me the most amazing things (in a non-schizophrenic sort of way). Our conversations began when I was younger, and doing my daily bible reading. I came across the following verse, “Call to me and I will answer you, and tell you great and mighty things which you do not know.” WOW What a powerful verse, I thought. So I tried it, I called to God, and added a prayer for wisdom along with it. I then decided it would be a good thing to have something to bring to the table, so I got out a notebook and wrote down different subjects that I was interested in learning about (in a spiritual way) and then looked up every verse in the bible pertaining to those subjects (made easy with a teaching bible). This way I figured I would be able to better discern God’s voice, instead of my own thoughts, AND it helped me ask better, more specific questions. And the subjects are varied, anything from human nature to engineering. Sometimes I just take my morning cup of coffee out to the porch and say, “What do you want to teach me today Father?”
Why am I writing about this now, you ask? Well, being sick definitely got me to thinking about “legacies” and what people would remember me for when I pass. I was horrified to think that all I would be remembered for are things like zombies and Halloween decorations. Definitely not a complete picture of who I am. I’m a very spiritual person, but I always viewed it as a personal, private thing. I see now that I was mistaken. Not that I was ever ashamed to talk about God, or what I believed in, I just tended to keep it to myself unless I was asked about it. SO, this is why I’ve decided to write posts about what God has taught me. I was originally going to write about this to my daughters, but decided I would post it publicly for two reasons. To tell what God has taught me, that should be passed on, and if you care to, you’ll get to see another part of me, rather than the controlled version of me here.
From earlier today: “What do you want to teach me today Father?”
Look at the flowers and plants. When they were created, everything was in place. The time of it’s sprouting, the days it would flower, and the time of their passing. They’re attached to the seasons, a bigger picture of that time cycle, and in sync. This was set in motion during creation. Yet, while alike, each flower/plant is unique unto it’s kind. Each are following the path set in place by God. The wheels have been put into motion (God created the heavens and the earth) and then God rested. This was a gift for everyone (God causes the sun to shine upon the good and the bad).
Sometimes, due to various reasons, a plant’s nature can be altered by the environment in which it grows in. Humans are the same way. Alike, yet individuals. Seasons and times in place. We are in sync with the cycle of the seasons, we have our path to follow. But sometimes the environment in which we grow up in confuses our plans and darkens our paths. When this happens, if we call upon God, He will help us get straightened out, to get back on and light up our the paths. When we call on God, it causes a heavenly spotlight, if you will, to shine upon us and God assists us, apart from the blanket good that was set in motion at creation, and is readily available to everyone. Not that that heavenly spotlight isn’t available to everyone, it IS, you only have to ask for it.
